About METICULOUS CRAFTSMAN

How can I create something that will move someone – still be functional – out of the materials I have? I like that challenge. And the feeling of success: gratifying.

My name is Kolby Rubeling and I am a self-taught woodworker.

I have always been fascinated with woodworking.

At an early age, I discovered that I enjoyed using my hands to create the ideas I imagined. I was fortunate enough to be given LEGO, Erector, and Wooden Building Block sets by my parents, which attributed to developing my creativity and problem-solving abilities. With LEGO, your creations are only limited by your imagination. I've found that the best way to create is through play. Still live by that to this day.

How did I get into woodworking? Here is my story...

I spent a few summers in Middle School attending a Summer Camp in Holderness, New Hampshire called Camp Deerwood. While at Deerwood, I was introduced to multiple types of crafting such as Forging and Woodworking. The Woodworking Shop instructors taught me how to use certain hand and power tools. I will always remember the items I built. A Cutting Board (still in use in my parents' kitchen), a birdhouse, chessboard, and wooden nameplates for my two brothers. While I enjoyed both, woodworking was more practical for me at the time because my father’s garage didn’t have a forge. It did, however, have plenty of hand tools, power tools, and scrap pieces of wood. I was always tinkering with scraps to occupy my time.

Cutting Boards can be made by anyone. Yes, that’s right. Anyone can make a Cutting Board. You can mill some wood, glue it together, and add oil.

However, I strive to create truly Functional Art with my uniquely intricate and detailed Cutting Board designs. When selecting woods for a design, I choose those that “speak” to me with their tone, grain pattern, and characteristics. My design vision is revealed when finishing a board. I don’t just use any oil. I use Walrus Oil Cutting Board Oil and their Wood Wax.

Enhancing one’s life by adding a beautifully functional Cutting Board to their home for food preparation and/or charcuterie purposes is my goal. I am happy that some customers have also told me they use it as a visual display. Creating a talking piece, something to admire or inspire, is what I am going for when creating my custom, one-of-a-kind designs. They are works of art, but my Cutting Boards are also created to be used.

It would be a pleasure to bring that enhancement to your life!
